1. Capitol Hill

The neighborhood also features the City of Cuernavaca Park, which offers picnic tables, hiking trails, and beautiful views of the South Platte River.

This rate is 40% higher than the average in the rest of Denver and 351% higher than the national average. Most residents do not report significant issues with crime, and the neighborhood tends to pose a greater risk to unsuspecting tourists. Auraria is a small community near the Central Business District, with a population of 799. Its crime rate is 76% higher than the national average, making it one of the most troubled neighborhoods in Denver. Most criminal activity occurs after dark.

While violent crime is relatively rare, petty theft and transient loitering are significant concerns in the area. Fortunately, there is a decent police department presence, which helps to monitor and address much of the crime.

8. Five Points

Five Points is known as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Denver. This historic city has a population of 16,264. The crime rate in Five Points is 52% higher than the national average. Although crime has decreased somewhat in recent decades, the area remains high-risk, particularly for property crimes and theft.

Residents and visitors should not leave cash or valuables in their vehicles or plain sight. The neighborhood becomes significantly more dangerous at night, and violent crimes such as assault and robbery should not be overlooked.

9. Baker

Baker is considered one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Denver. This suburban area has a high property crime rate. With a population of 5,795, Baker’s crime rate is 45% higher than the city average, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

10. Alamo Placita

Montbello is a suburban community near Green Valley Ranch, home to approximately 30,000 residents. The area has a high rate of both property and violent crimes, with 21 violent incidents and 56 property crimes reported in 2020.

The most common types of crimes include assaults, muggings, and theft, with pickpocketing occurring in crowded areas. Additionally, the safety of hotels in Montbello can vary significantly.

12. Central Business District

The Central Business District of Denver, home to approximately 10,000 residents, is the city’s economic center. While violent crime is relatively rare, the area has a high rate of property crime, particularly petty theft, with most incidents occurring at night.

Public transportation in the area, especially after dark, can be risky, and many hotels are generally not recommended.
